Bouncing Into Action

Reach New Heights With Kuwait’s Latest Amusement Sensation

By Maryann Maguire
Ever wanted to be a kid again? There’s only one place to do it this summer.
TRAMPO Kuwait, the new entertainment venture based in Promenade Mall has had a flying start since it opened in June. It’s no surprise.  A first in Kuwait, the new venture is defying amusement gravity and providing a new kind of family entertainment.
Walking into the premises is walking into a childhood dream. The only equipment needed? A pair of non-slip orange socks that are provided at reception. The rest involves a lot of laughter as children from the age of three, teenagers and adults can launch themselves on over twenty interconnected trampolines and jump until they drop. There is also a dodge ball court, a giant foam pit and a basketball court, all on trampolines.
But it’s not the only activity that is taking Kuwait by storm. TRAMPO Kuwait is co-located with Clip ‘n’ Climb.  This climbing park was first pioneered in New Zealand and the dizzying wall-to-wall centre is packed with colorful cliff faces that provide both a physical and mental workout. There are over eighteen walls offering a myriad of challenges. There is even a vertical drop slide and a bungee style experience named the “Leap of Faith”.
“We wanted to bring to Kuwait the best of what is available elsewhere in the world both in terms of concept and equipment”, explains Monira Al-Sabah, the Managing Director of TRAMPO Kuwait.  The owner of the Discovery Mall's soft play centre 'Play', Monira and business partner Ghazi Al Hajeri of 'Goal!' soccer stadiums are both pioneers in this sector. Their efforts come in response to what they saw as the paucity of clean, bright and inspiring play areas.
In a world where tearing children away from all things electronic is increasingly difficult, Monira and Ghazi have made it their goal to provide families with accessible opportunities for physical fun in safe and indoor environments. While studying finance in the US, Monira started researching playgrounds and today visits kid’s recreational areas as a hobby, even while on holidays.
The venture at Promenade Mall is only the first of several ventures to come.
A new TRAMPO park in the Sahara complex off the Sixth ring road is scheduled to open in January. OperationsManager Craig Ogilvie says it is going to be even bigger, brighter and better. The New Zealander has worked with the Clip ‘n’ Climb founders in Christchurch, often referred to as the birthplace of extreme sports, before braving the heat of Kuwait to develop the concept here.
Craig says both TRAMPO and Clip’n’Climb are exciting experiments. “They are work in progress and we learn every day from the feedback of our users of all ages. We are very keen to ensure the concept evolves to answer the particular demands of this market”.
The Kuwait experiment is even more important as the owners of TRAMPO hope to export the concept across the GCC and Saudi Arabia in particular.
While over the school holidays the parks are a children’s paradise, Craig plans to ensure they remain as popular during the day during term time. Amongst the ideas planned to keepthe park busy are school outings, women’s only nights, corporate team building events as well as fitness classes.
In the meantime, however, there’s only one way to get high this summer. It’s by beating the heat at Trampo and springing into action.
