Imagine Fresh Bagels, Home Made Cakes & Delicious Wholesome Food...


Well, we were fortunate enough not only to imagine, but to taste these wonderous delights!


Accepting an invitation to lunch at Q at The Yard was indeed a pleasure and we really didn’t have any idea what to expect…..needless to say, we were pleasantly surprised.



From the exterior, the signage reminded me of something I would find down Fleet Street, London, and upon entering we were greeted with a hip and chilled vibe, with exposed lightbulbs and cables to cosy plush seating in cool pastel shades. The restaurant isn’t large, its long and narrow, which makes it quaint without being cliché, this also means excellent service without having a mass of tables to serve. There is outdoor seating available if you choose to take advantage of this gorgeous weather we’re currently enjoying, or indeed if you’re a smoker (no smoking is allowed inside).



We had missed the breakfast menu (during the week, breakfast is served until 1pm, weekend until 3pm), but we shrieked with delight when we saw the lunch/dinner menu (served until 11pm). With traditional lunchtime treats such as Smoked Salmon Bagel, Pastrami on Sourdough and even the Ultimate Grilled Cheese Sandwich, it would be easy to grab lunch on the go……but, if like us, you were able to sit and savour the ambiance, there are splendid salads which you may add super seeds to, risottos & pastas or even PoQeh bowls, Shrimp Curry & the good ‘ole Classic Burger, to name just a few of the delicious delights listed on Q at The Yards rich, wholesome menu.


Everything is cooked fresh, on-site and uses only wholesome ingredients, and goodness, you can certainly taste the clean eating!


SO, what did we have? Whilst we were faced with the incredible difficulty of what to choose, we sipped on green tea infused with orange blossom. A light tea, without the usual over-bearing ‘green-tea’ taste………. certainly palatable and not in the slightest bitter.



Myself & Laura are pescatarians (non-meat-eaters, which includes chicken), and we were not short of choices on the menu, we decided with an entrée of Caramelised Shrimp & Cheese & Mushroom Quesadillas. We were NOT disappointed!


The giant shrimp were succulent and delicious, with sweetened caramelised onion with a light infusion of nigella seeds, they were divine!



The quesadillas were jammed to bursting with big, fat, juicy portobello mushrooms and creamy cheddar cheese, again the flavour was enhanced with the sweetness of caramelised onion, these were tasty, satisfying and by no means greasy (between you and me, I could eat these by the truckload)!



Now I have the terrible habit of being able to talk the hind legs off a donkey…but that didn’t phase the waiting staff, who waited patiently, and with a smile, for us to enjoy our entrees, before introducing our delicious mains! PoQeh Bowl & Roasted Salmon on Quinoa.


The roasted salmon was cooked to perfection, juicy on the inside and a little crisp on the edges. Served on a divine bed of quinoa that was mixed with rocket, walnuts, pickled onions, chili; yes it was a little spicy, but the yogurt tahina dressing cooled it down. It was a dish that was light but incredibly satisfying.



The PoQeh Bowl was so pleasing to the eye as well as the tastebuds…..the deep orange of the fresh mango with a lighter shade of grilled salmon, accompanied with creamy ripe avocado, crunchy red cabbage, edamame and a nori, ginger infused rice, topped off with a sprinkle of black sesame seeds, it was almost too pretty to eat! But eat we did, and as like everything we had enjoyed until then, we were not disappointed. The combination of the salmon, mango and infused rice has left me with a craving that will have me going back for more!



Now, being the healthy fanatics we are (actually, we pretend to be, I’m a secret chocoholic and Laura has never been known to say no to any type of food whatsoever) we were feeling very proud of ourselves to have eaten so cleanly and healthily (don’t count the quesadilla)…..BUT that was about to change! Q at The Yard have a cake that people order by the truckload and which is one of their best sellers:




A chocolate cake, (the portion is enough for two persons), that is light, but moist, that has a layer of creamy vanilla icing, and a layer of fudgy chocolate icing, with a smooth chocolate fondant icing it certainly did live up to its reputation…..addictive, delicious and satisfying, oh, its served with a strawberry, so that makes it healthy right? All washed down with a freshly brewed cappuccino and latte (both served with almond milk). It made the perfect ending to a truly memorable meal.


We can’t wait to return for breakfast at the weekend with our friends, and already have our eye on several dishes they have to offer; Lebanese Pancakes, Peanut Butter Banana French Toast, Avocado on Sourdough…and of course, Smoked Salmon Bagel.
