In light of Kuwait’s rapid urban transformation, theatre played a vital role in keeping a record of society’s collective memory. As these works accumulated, a library of works took form that helps us understand and reflect on these relatively recent changes.
In a series of events on the subject of theatre, Al Shaheed Park will be showing a selection of scenes from plays to help us understand the emotions that were most prominent during different eras–namely the 70s, 80s and 90s–of Kuwait’s history. The scheduled week of events will include discussions with theatre pioneers from the aforementioned eras to help us understand theatre’s impact on society and vice versa.
Presented at Al Shaheed Park, the program demonstrates and explores theatre’s role as a collaborative, social, and spatial practice crucial to the development of Kuwait
