Last week we looked at the inspiration of Chanel No.5 and now we will look at a few other of the Chanel fragrances. The first master perfumer was Ernest Beaux in the 1920’s the second was Henri Robert and the third Jacques Polge. Ernest Beaux also created No.22 but it wasn’t as popular as No.5. When Ernest Beaux retired Henri Robert took over from him in 1946. He created a number of modern classics including Pour Monsieur in 1955 which was the very first Chanel men’s fragrance and in 1970 he created No.19 and in 1974 he created Cristalle. Jacques Polge was Head Perfumer from 1978 to 2015, he created the following Chanel fragrances: 1982 Antaeus; 1984 Coco; 1990 Egoiste; 1996 Allure; 1999 Allure Homme; 2001 Coco Mademoiselle; 2002 Chance; 2010 Bleu de Chanel and 2012 Coco Noir.
No.19 was created in 1970 by Henri Robert and it was initially created just for Coco Chanel to wear and it was called No.19 as she is born on the 19thof August. It was released after she passed away on the 10thof January 1971. It was advertised with the slogans “The Unexpected Chanel”, “The Outspoken Chanel” and “Devastatingly Feminine” I love this fragrance and when I wear it I am guaranteed to be asked what I am wearing and when I tell them it’s No.19 they are always in shock and say they usually don’t like it. It has been referred to as a “green fragrance” with lily of the valley, neroli, jasmine, rose, sandalwood, leather, musk, iris and vetiver and when it is initially sprayed it may seem unique but once it settles it leaves the most beautiful scent. So I encourage you to try it and spray it on your wrist and smell it an hour later and judge it then.
Cristalle was created in 1974 it was inspired from Coco Chanel’s taste for life in the great outdoors and her natural yet sophisticated femininity. It’s name evokes the transparency and purity of the fragrance. It is a floral-fresh fragrance with a balance of character, it is both strong and light; natural yet sophisticated. Jasmine is used and Iris from Florance.
Next week I will write about more of my favourite Chanel fragrances made created by Jacques Polge. Just a little bit about the Chanel Empire that I think is rather interesting Coco Chanel founded Chanel in 1909 it’s head quarters are in London, UK in 2017 the company made world wide $9.6 Billion. Employs twenty thousand people world wide. Coco Chanel is best known for the Double-C logo, Chanel suit, Little black dress, The Chanel bag and of course for Chanel No. 5.
Next week I will talk about her other fragrances!
