The most complete example of Kuwaiti sporting hospitality is evident at the Kuwait Camel Racing Club out in Kab'd (click [Here] for the location).
The 9th February sees the legendary Kuwait Camel Festival taking place. Watch the camel races, shop at the Bedouin Heritage Village, enjoy delicious bites, ride a camel and watch the traditional Kuwaiti sword dance being performed, it really is a day out for all the family!
The winner of the races wins not only an SUV but a prestigious title and the knowledge that his camel may be worth in excess of a 100 thousand dinar!
The Heritage Village opens from 11am, and is situated approx.. 500m before the main entrance of the camel club on the left side. The races start around 3pm.
The camels no longer race with a human rider, instead they have a remote controlled jockey, weighing no more than a lap top, that is directed from a speeding 4WD on a dirt track parallel to the camels' race circuit. The trainer is able to shout instructions through a speaker on the robot, and crack the whip when necessary, via. remote control. This has to be experienced to be believed and typically involves twenty or more SUVs and cars jockeying for position at speed; in a word, it's a blast!
